Health Ministry on high alert after detecting XBB variant of COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Oct 29: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has warned caution following the detection of the XBB subvariant of Omicron in Nepal.

According to Dr Sameer Kumar Adhikari, the joint spokesperson at the MoHP, the XBB variant of COVID-19 has been confirmed in most of the new cases being reported these days.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), the government had collected samples from people of different age groups from August 6 to October 30 and the XBB subvariant of Omicron has been confirmed after conducting genome sequencing for the first time in Nepal.

In recents weeks, Nepal has been recording around 50 new cases of COVID-19 daily.

Our neighboring country, India, with whom we share an open border, has also confirmed XBB and XBB 1subvariant of Omicron variant of COVID-19.
