Ruling alliance to hold meeting today, discuss local level election

KATHMANDU, Jan 29: The ruling alliance – Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party and Rastriya Janamorcha Party – is scheduled to hold a meeting.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 AM on Saturday.

Despite the recommendation of the Election Commission to hold the local level election in Baishakh (April/May), the ruling alliance has failed to reach a consensus and announce a date for the election.

The alliance has rather maintained that the Acts and the Constitution are conflicting and must be amended first.

Earlier on Friday, the key leaders of the alliance, Prime Minister and President of NC, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of CPN (MC), Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Chairman of CPN (US), Madhav Kumar Nepal held a meeting at PM’s Office Residence at Baluwatar and discussed the issue of local-level election and amendment of the Act.
