Stalemate in Province 1: No house meeting since Nov 17

BIRATNAGAR, Jan 10: Province Assembly of Province 1 has not held a single meeting for nearly two months.

No meeting has been convened since the day Chief Minister Rajendra Kumar Rai won the confidence motion from the provincial assembly on November 17.

The meeting of the provincial assembly was put off until further notice after CM Rai won the trust vote.

Impacted by the delay in convening the meeting, the provincial lawmakers are deprived of raising their voices and questioning the government over various issues ranging from the shortage of fertilizers to, government's role in combating the COVID-19 pandemic among others.

Main opposition CPN-UML has demanded to summon the meeting at the earliest. Accusing the provincial government of making attempts to avoid parliament, UML’s chief whip in the province, Buddhi Kumar Raj Bhandari said that a House meeting should be called in order to make it possible for the people’s representatives to raise the contemporary issues.
