NA Elections: 43 candidates file candidacy for 19 seats (with list)
KATHMANDU, Jan 4: As many as 43 candidates representing nine political parties filed their nominations for the 19 vacant seats in the National Assembly (NA) on Tuesday.
Main opposition CPN-UML fielded its candidates for all 19 seats in the upper house.
Five parties belonging to the ruling alliance, however, divided the seats among them and fielded candidates accordingly.
According to the seat allocation deal that the coalition partners reached on Monday, Nepali Congress (NC)’s six, CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist)’s five each, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP)’s two and Rastriya Janamorcha’s one candidates are in the race to be elected as the NA for a six-year tenure.
Similarly, two candidates each belonging to Democratic Socialist Forum (DSP), Nepal Workers Peasants’ Party (NWPP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) are also vying for the upper house seats.
An electoral college of respective provincial assembly members, chairperson/ vice-chairpersons of rural municipalities and mayors/deputy mayors of municipalities/ sub metropolises and metropolises of the respective provinces will cast votes to elect the members of the upper house.
