265 corona cases detected Monday through 8,617 tests

357 people recover from viral disease in past 24 hours

KATHMANDU: Officials at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) confirmed that 265 people caught the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Monday afternoon. 

The new cases were detected through 8,617 tests including 7,114 RT-PCR and 1,503 antigen tests. 

This has taken the total number of active cases of the viral disease to 6,386. 

Meanwhile, 357 got over the disease in the same period taking the country’s COVID-19 recovery percent to 97.8 percent. 

Two more patients, however, succumbed to the disease on Monday taking the fatality tally to 11,543.

Meanwhile, Omicron variant of coronavirus was detected in Nepal on Sunday. 

According to the ministry, two people tested positive for the new variant of the virus during a gene sequencing test carried out at the National Public Health Laboratory in Teku on Sunday.
