Party will take action against those defying whip: UML Chief Whip Bhattarai

KATHMANDU, May 10: Chief Whip of the ruling CPN-UML, Bishal Bhattarai has said that that party will take action against the lawmakers defying the whip issued by the party.

Chief whip Bhattarai on Sunday had issued a whip to the lawmakers to compulsorily attend Monday’s House session and vote in favor of Prime Minister and party Chairman KP Sharma Oli.

Bhattarai said that the party will take action against those lawmakers if they skip Monday’s parliament confidence vote.  “Defying a whip is a serious matter, however, the House session is yet to begin,” he added.

He also expressed his confidence that the lawmakers close to the party’s Nepal faction will join the meeting and vote in favor of PM Oli. “Yesterday, they were talking about resigning en masse, which did not happen. Now, they have warned of skipping the meeting,” he said. “Let’ see what would happen next.”

Earlier, 22 lawmakers close to the Nepal faction decided not to attend today’s parliament session.
