Police submit report on Swarnalakshmi Cooperative fund embezzlement
Kathmandu, January 2 — The police have submitted the report after completing the investigation into the embezzlement of funds of Swarnalakshmi Multipurpose Cooperative.
The report has been filed at the Kathmandu District Government Attorney's office with 44 individuals named as defendants, as stated by SP Nabaraj Adhikari of the Kathmandu District Police Range.
The police have recommended charging 44 individuals, including Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane. They have proposed a claim for damages amounting to NPR 1.19 billion (119,492,1270).
On November 6, 2024, audit committee member Sunita Newa and on November 9, 2024, loan subcommittee member Kamal Lama were arrested.
Among the accused involved in the embezzlement of Swarnalakshmi Cooperative's funds, five are in detention.
Rabi Lamichhane and former DIG Chhabilal Joshi are in the custody of the District Police Office, Kaski. Treasurer Kumar Ramtel is in prison.
Other defendants have been placed on the wanted list, and the investigation report has been submitted accordingly.
