Court will give verdict as per spirit of constitution, people's aspirations: Prachanda

Kathmandu - Chairman of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Dahal-Nepal faction Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has said his party will get official recognition from the Election Commission (EC). At a news conference organised by the party to announce the decisions of the third central committee meeting held from December 22 to 24, Chairman Prachanda said that his faction will get official recognition of the NCP as the faction has majority of the central committee members. "In the third central committee meeting, we have support and presence of 315 central committee members," he added.

Chairman Prachanda expressed confidence, "We are assured of getting party's name, flag and election symbol in line with the constitution, Act on political party and rules since we have absolute majority." Similarly, the NCP on Friday submitted the signatures of 295 central committee members out of 441 members by claiming the official recognition to the party and election symbol. Saying that the House of Representatives (HoR) was dissolved stating the provision that is not in the Constitution of Nepal, he argued that the constitution has not given right to the President and Prime Minister to dissolve the HoR. He was of the view that the country's politics has reached the complex turn after the President's endorsement to the recommendation to dissolve the HoR.

According to him, the leaders of his faction were fully assured to the House restoration. "We have trust on the court. The court will issue verdict as per the constitution's norms and spirit and people's aspirations. On the occasion, Prachanda warned of protest if the HoR was not restored. Similarly, the NCP Chairman said that he made best possible support to the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli-led government while recalling that party unification was done to ensure political stability in the country.

Also speaking at the programme, another Chairman of NCP and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal called for politeness from those remaining in power. On the occasion, he said, "As the faction he and Prachanda led was the official one, party's all property was also theirs. All the property of NCP will be ours," he claimed. Similarly, party's senior leader and former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal shared that the efforts to keep the party intact could not succeed.
