Australian Footballer Christian Volpato Caught Speeding, Tests Positive for Cocaine

Sydney. Australian Football team (Socceroos) midfielder Christian Volpato was caught by the police while driving at high speed in Sydney and tested positive for cocaine. 
22-year-old Volpato was stopped by the police for allegedly driving at high speed twice in one night. 

According to New South Wales police, he was stopped at 11:05 PM local time on Thursday night after driving a BMW at speeds between 86 to 94 kilometers per hour on the Anzac Bridge, which has a speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour. A breath test conducted at that time found no alcohol consumption. 

However, the police stopped him again two hours later in the same 60 kilometers per hour speed limit zone for driving at 109 kilometers per hour. Police stated that Volpato was found to have consumed cocaine in the test conducted at that time. 

The New South Wales state police have issued him a speeding fine and suspended his international driver's license for six months. This means he will not be able to drive a vehicle in New South Wales anymore. Police said that another sample of his oral fluid was collected for further investigation and that further investigation into the incident is ongoing. 

Volpato played in three out of four matches for the team when Australia reached the last 32 stages in the World Cup. Australia was eliminated after losing to Egypt in the penalty shootout of that tournament. 

He had previously played for Italy's youth team and decided to play for the Australian team last May, just before the World Cup squad was announced. Volpato, who has been associated with Serie A club Sassuolo since 2023, played 24 league games last season, helping the team to an eleventh-place finish.
