Luka Modric Renews AC Milan Contract for One Year

Milan. AC Milan midfielder Luka Modric has renewed his contract with the club for another year. 

The Croatian player, who will turn 41 next September, came to Milan after leaving Real Madrid with a one-year contract last season.

After spending 13 years at the Santiago Bernabéu, Modric arrived at Milan and played 37 games, scoring two goals in his first season. However, that season was not encouraging for Milan. The team finished fifth in Serie A and was eliminated from the Coppa Italia in the round of 16.

Expressing his happiness after the contract extension, Modric said, 'I am very excited to stay at AC Milan, where I have received welcome and love since day one. After the last season, which did not meet our expectations, the desire to move the team forward again is strong. We have a new season and new challenges ahead, a project in which I believe and which inspires me.'

He added, 'I am ready to give my all for this jersey again and I am proud to represent this color. I can't wait to return to San Siro and feel the roar of the fans.'
Modric recently played in his fifth World Cup, where Croatia was eliminated after losing to Portugal in the round of 32. Since Modric became captain of the national team in 2016, Croatia has been a World Cup runner-up once and third once.

The 2018 Ballon d'Or winner Modric won six Champions League titles and four La Liga titles with Real Madrid. Before that, he played 160 games for London club Tottenham Hotspur in four years.

This season at Milan, he will play under the management of former Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim. Amorim replaced Massimiliano Allegri, who was sacked last June.
