Fake Bhutanese Refugee Case: Absconding Maharjan Appears in Court

KATHMANDU, June 1: Defendant Haribhakta Maharjan, who was absconding after the arrest warrant was issued in the fake Bhutanese refugee case, appeared in the Kathmandu District Court on Thursday. Maharjan, a resident of Lalitpur, appeared at the Kathmandu District Court on Thursday. Earlier, his wife Laxmi Maharjan was arrested by the police in the case.

Police have taken permission to keep Maharjan, who came to appear in the Court himself, in custody for investigation and are preparing to proceed with the necessary action.  With Maharjan in custody, 18 people among the 30 defendants have been arrested till now, while 12 are still absconding.

The process of taking the testimony of the defendants which began on May 26 is continuing at the Kathmandu District Court.
