DPM Mahara urges Indian govt to open river dam gates
Kathmandu - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Krishna Bahadur Mahara has called on the government of India through the Nepal-based Indian Embassy to open gates, as per the necessary, of the dams in the rivers along the Nepal-India border.
The Foreign Minister in a telephone call to Indian Ambassador for Nepal, Manjeev Singh Puri, on Saturday sought his initiation to make sure the opening of river dam gates as required in the aftermath of floods havoc, a result of incessant rains since Friday, in the Terai region, according to the Minister's Secretariat.
The Indian government was urged to open the rivers gates so as to avoid additional loss in the affected areas. The Indian side not opening gates along the Saptakoshi and Laxmanpur barrages as per the necessity has fuelled the problem of inundation towards the Nepali territory.
