Government Replaces Over 92,000 Thatched Roofs with Tin Roofs

Kathmandu. Under the thatched roof displacement campaign operated by the government, tin roofs have been installed in more than 92,000 households so far. 
According to the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, 92,988 households have come under safe housing (tin roofs) through the financial grant program that started in the fiscal year 2077/078.

The government has been providing financial grants to install tin roofs in houses with thatched or straw roofs to protect citizens living below the poverty line from fire, storms, rain, and other natural risks.

According to the data provided by the department, a total of 214,230 housing units were approved for the construction of safe housing nationwide.

Out of the approved number, agreements have been made with 150,120 households so far, and according to the same agreement, the construction work of 92,988 housing units has been fully completed.

The department has stated that work is also progressing rapidly in the remaining agreed-upon and in-process housing units. The lives of poor and at-risk families have become safer through this program.
