Parliamentary Hearing Committee Chairman Asks Proposed Commissioner About His Farewell Speech

Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party MP and Parliamentary Hearing Committee Chairman Bidhya Narayan Shrestha has asked proposed commissioner Dr. Rajiv Subba a symbolic question targeting his future performance and integrity.

On Tuesday, during the hearing of proposed Election Commissioner Dr. Subba in the Parliamentary Hearing Committee, Chairman Shrestha, envisioning the day of his retirement after his tenure, inquired about how his performance would be.

Shrestha asked Dr. Subba, 'You will call me on the day of your farewell, even if I am no longer a member of parliament. Have you made any guess about what kind of speech I will give about your tenure and personality on that day?'

Chairman Shrestha asked if the proposed commissioner could draft a one-minute speech for his farewell.

Envisioning the tenure of the proposed commissioner, Chairman Shrestha said, 'You will still be able to work for about 6 years based on your age, won't you? So, your tenure will reach about 2089 BS, a bit longer than ours. I have imagined a scene. On the day you retire or have your final farewell, perhaps you will invite us to the farewell ceremony even if we are not members of parliament.'

Expressing his curiosity, he added, 'If I have to speak for one minute about you on that day, have you ever guessed what kind of speech I might give?'

Praising Subba's integrity so far, he said, 'There has not been a single complaint against you so far. We are also proud of that. Therefore, please prepare a draft of what kind of one-minute speech I might give about you on your farewell day.'

This question posed by Chairman Shrestha regarding the speech he would give at Dr. Subba's post-retirement farewell ceremony indicates the committee's interest in the proposed commissioner's future work plan and its effectiveness.
