Nepali Congress leader Gopal Man Shrestha passes away

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress leader Gopal Man Shrestha has passed away. He passed away on Tuesday during treatment at Helios Hospital in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur.

Party office acting chief secretary Krishna Prasad Dulal confirmed his death and informed that his body would be kept at the party office for paying respects from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM tomorrow. Shrestha was suffering from cancer. 

Shrestha has 3 sons and 6 daughters. Shrestha, who won parliamentary elections from Syangja multiple times, previously held the responsibilities of Minister of Physical Planning and Construction, Minister of Forest and Soil Conservation, Minister of Industry, and Minister of Education. 

He also became a Deputy Prime Minister. Shrestha, who also served as the chief whip of the Congress parliamentary party, also became the acting president of the then Nepali Congress (Democratic). 

Active in the democratic movement since 2017 BS, from his student days, Shrestha was an active participant in the 2036 BS referendum, the 2042 BS Satyagraha, the 2046 BS People's Movement, and the 2062-63 BS Second People's Movement.

 He worked at the forefront in advancing the movement for the establishment of democracy and the peace process.
