Rastriya Prajatantra Party Leader Khusbu Oli Demands Impartial Investigation into Devanaganj Incident

Kathmandu. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leader and Member of Parliament Khusbu Oli has demanded an impartial investigation into the incident that occurred during the Bolbam yatra in Devanaganj, Sunsari, and urged the government to ensure the security of citizens participating in religious journeys.

Issuing a statement on social media on Monday, she mentioned that the Bolbam yatra is an integral part of Nepal's religious and cultural tradition, and it is the constitutional duty of the state to ensure the security of citizens participating in such journeys.

She stated that the death of one person due to a gunshot and the treatment of several others injured in the Devanaganj incident is a matter of serious concern.

Oli noted that the incident has raised serious questions about the state's security system, and the government must provide clear answers as to why the growing unease at the local level could not be addressed in time, why the early warning and information system was not effective, and why the use of firearms, considered the last resort to save citizens' lives, became necessary.

Oli stated that it is a matter of serious concern for a democratic state that a simple dispute escalated into violence, leading to police firing, one death, more than two dozen injured, and the imposition of curfew in five places.

Oli urged for an impartial, independent, and high-level investigation into the actual cause of the incident, the responsible parties, and the justification for the use of force by the security agencies, demanding that whoever the culprits are, they be brought to justice and that the victims' families be provided justice and appropriate compensation.

She also appealed to all citizens to exercise restraint, tolerance, and responsibility in the sensitive situation, urging them not to fall prey to rumors and incitement but to strengthen social harmony, religious tolerance, and national unity. She expressed condolences to the deceased in the incident and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
