Ganganarayan Shrestha Clarifies Political Ambitions Amidst Rumors

Kathmandu. Nepali Communist Party (NCP) leader Ganganarayan Shrestha has strongly responded to allegations that he is lobbying for a ministerial position. Accusing some party leaders of spreading misinformation, he clarified that he is indeed a contender for the Chief Minister of Bagmati Province.

However, in a statement posted on social media platform Facebook on Monday, Shrestha alleged that some individuals are trying to tarnish his character by claiming he is once again seeking a ministerial post, especially in the context of the power-sharing agreement with UML where the Chief Minister position for Bagmati Province fell to UML.

He mentioned that a situation arose where the NCP had to support the formation of the government to prevent the dissolution of the Provincial Assembly after the Congress-UML alliance broke. He stated that although he received suggestions from across the country to merely support the government and stay out, and he himself liked that suggestion, circumstances did not permit it.

Shrestha also expressed the view that at a time when Nepal's communist movement is weakened, it is necessary for communist forces to unite with transformation, reflecting on past weaknesses. Therefore, he believes it would be appropriate for the NCP and UML to form the provincial government together.

However, he demands that the leadership should provide an explanation to the public on what basis the provincial government leadership was distributed.

Shrestha wrote, 'My claim has been for the Chief Minister position from the beginning until now. Yesterday, I took on the responsibility of a minister under different circumstances. Currently, I have no claim for a ministerial position. Friends who are speculating and accusing can be clear. My claim was for the Chief Minister, not for a minister.'
