Home Ministry Forms Committee to Investigate Clash in Sunsari

Kathmandu. A committee has been formed by the Home Ministry to investigate the clash between Hindu and Muslim communities in Captainganj, Ward No.-3 of Devangaj Rural Municipality, Sunsari. The meeting chaired by Home Minister Sudhan Gurung on Monday decided to form a committee under the leadership of a joint secretary of the ministry. The meeting, which started at 9 am today, was attended by the Home Ministry's secretary and security chiefs.

It has not yet been confirmed who will lead the investigation committee. Assistant Chief District Officer of Sunsari, Poshan Lamichhane, will be the member secretary of the committee. The committee will also include representatives from the security agencies and the Ministry of Energy, Home Ministry spokesperson (Joint Secretary) Anand Kafle told Ratopati.

One person died from security forces' gunfire in the clash that occurred on Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as Om Prakash Mehta, who was residing in Captainganj. The dispute began over the issue of the Hindu community playing loud DJ music at the temple and prior to that, removing the Muslim community's flag placed on an electricity pole in the area and hoisting a Hindu flag.
