Three including former secretary accused of embezzling child nutrition allowance

Kathmandu. The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority has filed a charge sheet at the Special Court, Kathmandu, holding three people, including the then secretary of the former Bharatpur Village Development Committee in Mahottari, guilty of embezzling children's nutrition allowance.

A case has been filed after the investigation confirmed corruption based on a complaint of embezzlement of child protection grant allowance for the fiscal year 2068/069 of the former Bharatpur VDC.

According to the investigation of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, an amount of three lakh seven thousand two hundred rupees released from the District Development Committee Office, Mahottari for child protection allowance was embezzled without being distributed to the concerned children.

According to the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, the then office assistant Umakant Mahato, by misusing his official position, embezzled the amount in direct involvement and collusion with the then VDC secretary Maheshwor Mahato Koiri and Suruj Sahu, who was working in the internal audit branch of the District Development Committee Office, Jaleshwor.

It has also been confirmed by laboratory test reports that they prepared fake vouchers by having beneficiaries and other individuals put their thumbprints without distributing the allowance to the beneficiaries and settled the advance.

The Commission's spokesperson Suresh Neupane informed that a charge sheet has been filed at the Special Court, Kathmandu, demanding punishment against the defendants under Section 9 and Section 17 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059, after confirming that they embezzled 3 lakh 7 thousand 2 hundred rupees with the intention of causing loss and damage to the Government of Nepal and obtaining illegal benefits for themselves.
