Narayan-Muglin Road Section to Halt Traffic for Slope Cutting

Chitwan. Vehicles will be stopped to cut the slope at Twin Khola on the Narayangadh-Muglin road section. The Division Road Office Chitwan has urged the construction company that won the contract for landslide control to prepare to stop the road and cut the slope.

According to the office's engineer Arjun Ghimire, a discussion is being held at the District Administration Office on Saturday. The work will proceed after the time for stopping vehicles is decided in consultation with the administration. The construction company has already brought an excavator and a loader to Twin Khola.

According to Ghimire, if work is done by stopping the road for two to three hours daily, it is estimated that the risky slopes can be removed in about two months. He informed that they will request the administration to stop vehicles during the daytime when the traffic is less. This road is the 'lifeline' of the capital. About 10,000 vehicles pass through this road daily.

Babari Construction has contracted to remove the landslide risk of the slope on the Narayangadh side of Twin Khola and the slope on the Muglin side of Namsi for Rs 22 crore 21 lakh. The work at both places must be completed within the next 10 months.

In the first phase, people will have to hang with the help of a jackhammer to bring down the risky slopes. Then, rods will be drilled into the wall and nets will be installed from the outside to prevent landslides. This is called 'Nailing'. He informed that work will be done in the same way at both places.

Last year, on October 3 and 7, landslides occurred at Twin Khola, which is at high risk of landslides, blocking the road for more than 100 hours. That slope is 105 meters high and 165 meters long. The slope on the Muglin side of Namsi is 60 meters high and 100 meters long. Last year, a landslide suddenly occurred at Twin Khola on the wall cut during road expansion a few years ago, putting that place at high risk.

There is a risk of landslides at 43 places, from medium to high, on that road section. As landslides can occur at any time, equipment has been kept ready at Muglin and Seti Dobhan to clear landslides. There is one loader in Muglin, while a loader, excavator, backhoe loader, dumper, trailer, and mini excavator are kept at Seti Dobhan.
