Kathmandu Metropolitan City to Operate Teku Transfer Station by Mangsir

Kathmandu. Kathmandu Metropolitan City is preparing to bring the under-construction waste transfer station in Teku into operation by Mangsir. Acting Chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol informed that the metropolis is preparing to complete the construction of the waste transfer station before Mangsir and bring it into operation from Mangsir.

After observing the under-construction station on Wednesday, Acting Chief Dangol said that waste management will be made modern and organized once the station comes into operation. According to her, currently, waste is being separated in an open manner in most places. As this has increased pollution and health risks, the metropolis is constructing a modern transfer station in Teku, she informed.

She stated that waste will be sorted through a mechanical system in this station. According to her, the station will have a Material Recovery Facility, where organic and inorganic waste will be separated. Inorganic waste will be sent for reuse, and organic waste will be managed towards Banchare Danda, she informed. She also mentioned that plans are being made to utilize organic waste to make compost fertilizer.

It is said that the amount of waste reaching Banchare Danda will also decrease once the station comes into operation. On Wednesday, Acting Chief Dangol conducted an on-site inspection of the transfer station.
