Minister Yadav: Foreign Employment Cannot Be Stopped Immediately, Focus on Safety and Dignity

Kathmandu. Minister for Youth, Labour and Employment Ramji Yadav has clarified that foreign employment cannot be stopped immediately.nbsp;

Speaking to journalists during an inspection of the Department of Foreign Employment on Tuesday, Minister Yadav said that it is not possible to completely stop foreign employment, so the government is focused on making it safe and dignified.nbsp;

He informed that efforts are being made to sign labour agreements with European countries with the objective that workers are not exploited, receive fair wages, and are ensured basic living standards and services. He stated that the government is exploring new destinations like European countries that are safe and offer high returns to make foreign employment systematic.nbsp;

The ministry has also put forward a new plan to solve the problems in the domestic labour market. Minister Yadav said that the Department of Labour will soon launch an online platform to address complaints that workers working within the country do not receive fair wages and are subjected to labour exploitation. It is believed that with the implementation of this system, the compulsion for workers to physically visit labour offices for small tasks will end.nbsp;

Speaking to journalists, Minister Yadav said, 'There is no situation where foreign employment can be stopped immediately, nor is it appropriate to do so. Today's world has become a global village, where people's movement from one country to another is a natural process.'nbsp;

Clarifying his priorities, he added, 'Therefore, our priority is not to stop foreign employment, but to make it safe, dignified, and systematic. We are also looking for good labour markets where Nepali workers are not exploited.'nbsp;

Speaking about workers' rights and new destinations, Minister Yadav said, 'Efforts are underway on new and safe labour destinations including Europe so that they can receive fair wages, safe workplaces, accommodation, and basic living standard facilities.' He said that everyone's cooperation is needed to make this sector dignified and that efforts are being made to deliver quick results as expected by the public.nbsp;

Elaborating on the improvement of the domestic labour market, he added, 'An online complaint system has been launched from the Department of Foreign Employment today. Similarly, the Department of Labour will also launch a similar online platform for complaints related to labour exploitation in the domestic labour market.' He clarified that currently, domestic workers also have to visit labour offices, and these services will be made easier through digital means.nbsp;

Acknowledging that the laxity in law enforcement in the past had emboldened fraudsters, Minister Yadav warned that the government would act ruthlessly from now on. Realizing that the public wants quick results, the ministry is making efforts at a rapid pace to deliver results, he claimed. He expects cooperation from all sectors in making the foreign employment sector transparent and dignified.nbsp;
