RSP Clarifies Child Membership Issue to Human Rights Commission

Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has given a clarification to the National Human Rights Commission regarding the distribution of party membership to children below 18 years of age.

After it was revealed that children were made party members against the constitution, the Human Rights Commission took interest and sent a letter to RSP seeking information about the reality.

The commission had sent a letter to RSP on Asar 15 asking for factual information about it. Spokesperson of the Human Rights Commission, Dr. Tikaram Pokharel, informed that RSP has sent a reply to the commission's letter.

RSP gives clarification on the issue of making children party members

'The answer to the question asked has arrived', said spokesperson Pokharel, 'The investigation department has informed that the answer has arrived.'

According to sources from the Human Rights Commission, RSP has replied to the commission stating that the issue of 35,027 members below 18 years of age was not based on actual membership records but only on preliminary application details, and therefore, it was mistakenly included in the report that individuals of that age group became party members.

Furthermore, it has clarified that the party's policy and practice is not to make individuals below 18 years of age party members, in accordance with the Constitution of Nepal, the Political Parties Act, the Children Act, and international commitments.
