Northern Vietnam Floods and Landslides Cause 5 Deaths, 3 Missing

Kathmandu. The death toll from sudden floods and landslides caused by heavy rainfall in northern Vietnam last week has reached 5, while three people are still missing, the Disaster and Dam Management Authority said on Monday.

According to the authority, 10 people were injured in the disaster. All the casualties are from Chau province. Floods and landslides occurred in the area due to continuous rainfall from Wednesday to Sunday. The disaster has caused extensive physical damage.

According to preliminary details, 427 houses were completely destroyed or damaged, and about 140 families have been moved to safe places from high-risk areas. The economic damage caused by the disaster is estimated to be around 362.46 billion Vietnamese Dong (about 14.3 million US dollars).

Local authorities are continuing to collect detailed information on the damage and search for the missing.
