US Strikes Iran After Soldier Deaths, Iran Retaliates

KATHMANDU. Following renewed conflict in West Asia and the first death of an American soldier, the United States launched airstrikes on Iran on Sunday. This strike is said to be a 'punishment' for Iran.

Iran also responded immediately to the American attack, targeting two American military bases in Kuwait. Iran stated that this attack was in response to escalating attacks over the past week. Tehran accused them of targeting airports, railway stations, and bridges.

The preliminary agreement reached to end the war has been shattered as fighting between both sides intensified for control of the Strait of Hormuz. This waterway is extremely important for the world's oil supply. The Iranian army stated that it carried out drone attacks on two American bases in Kuwait. They claimed to have targeted the ammunition depot at Camp Arifjan and the Patriot radar and aerial surveillance systems at Ali Al Salem Air Base.

Tehran also launched a new attack in Jordan. The US military's Central Command (CENTCOM) stated on Friday that two American soldiers were killed while facing Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks. CENTCOM confirmed that one soldier is still missing. With these deaths, the number of American soldiers killed in the war that the US and Israel started on Iran on February 28 has reached 16.

The US military stated that it has attacked Iran for the eighth consecutive night. This attack targeted the units involved in the attack on the two American soldiers killed in Jordan. The US Central Command stated that this attack was to 'quickly punish the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps soldiers who attacked American soldiers in Jordan'.
