Government Clears Encroachments, Displaced Residents' Belongings Left to Rot

Kathmandu. The government bulldozed slum settlements along the riverbanks of the Kathmandu Valley in Baishakh last year. The slum dwellers and their belongings were taken to Dashrath Stadium in Tripureshwor. After that, the government took the slum dwellers to holding centers as a short-term management measure. Some of the belongings of the slum dwellers were left behind at the stadium during the process of shifting. This luggage has been at the stadium for about 2.5 months. Stadium employees said that most of the belongings have rotted and are stinking due to rain. Employees of the National Sports Council (NSC) complained that their requests to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City to move the belongings were ignored.
