Nationwide Highways Blocked Due to Rain, Landslides

Kathmandu. Various main highways across the country have been obstructed due to continuous rain, floods, and landslides. According to the details until 6:30 PM on Wednesday, some roads are completely closed due to floods and landslides, while in some places, vehicles are operating only on one side.

In Bhojpur, Khokim, under Koshi Province, the Mid-Hill Highway has been operating only on one side since Asar 12 due to floods, where an alternative route is also available. Similarly, under the Mechi Highway, the Ilam Municipality-9 Rajduwali (Jhapa to Taplejung road) section has been completely obstructed since Asar 23 due to continuous rain, and an alternative route has to be used there.

In view of the potential flood risk on the BP Highway in Bagmati Province, all vehicles were stopped from operating on the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi section from 6:00 PM on Asar 22 to 4:00 AM the next day.

Similarly, on the Kanti Lokpath, from Hetauda-Thingan-Bagmati-Lalitpur section in Makwanpur, due to the high risk of potential floods and landslides, the operation of vehicles has been stopped from 5:00 PM on Asar 29 until further notice.  

On the Bhimfedi Rural Municipality Ward No. 8 Bhayangdanda section of the Kanti Lokpath (Lalitpur to Hetauda), the road has been cleared of landslides that occurred on Asar 27 and is now operating on one side. The Arniko Highway has been completely obstructed due to landslides in Kodari, Ward No. 2 of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchok on Asar 30, and in Jithokilo, Ward No. 4 on Asar 31.

Roads in Gandaki Province have also been affected by rain and landslides. The Nayapul-Ghandruk road section in Annapurna Rural Municipality Ward No. 8 Sardikhola, Kaski, has been operating only on one side since Asar 29 due to continuous rain. In Baglung, the Mid-Hill Highway in Inarpani, Ward No. 6 of Kathekhola Rural Municipality, has been cleared of landslides that occurred on Asar 30 and the road has been opened for one-way traffic.

In Lumbini Province, the road in Dhungrekhola, Ward No. 2 of Panini Rural Municipality, Arghakhanchi, under the Saljhandi-Dhorpatan road section, has been completely obstructed due to landslides that occurred on Asar 28. In Gulmi, the road in Rakse, Ward No. 2 of Kaligandaki Rural Municipality, under the Kaligandaki Corridor, has been operating only on one side due to landslides that occurred on Asar 29, and in Purtighat, Ward No. 4 of the same rural municipality, due to landslides that occurred on Asar 29.

In Karnali Province, the road in Maluwa, Nalgad Municipality, under the Jajarkot-Dolpa road section, has been operating on one side due to landslides that occurred on Asar 30, according to the police.
