Football Star Lamine Yamal's Home Targeted in Attempted Burglary

Barcelona. Police and media reported that an attempted burglary occurred at the home of Spanish football star Lamine Yamal in Barcelona, a few days after he helped his team reach the World Cup final.

A spokesperson for the Catalan regional police informed the AFP news agency that an attempted burglary took place at a house in Esplugues de Llobregat, on the outskirts of Barcelona.

Although the police refused to disclose the name of the homeowner citing privacy reasons, the daily newspaper 'La Vanguardia', published in Barcelona, confirmed that the house belongs to the 19-year-old Spanish forward Yamal.

According to 'La Vanguardia', two individuals wearing masks covering their heads and faces were spotted by private security guards climbing the house walls and attempting to enter. They fled upon being seen by the guards. The newspaper also mentioned that this house is often in the spotlight as it was once the famous residence of Barcelona football star Gerard Pique and his ex-girlfriend, Colombian singer Shakira.

This incident occurred on Wednesday morning, shortly after Spain secured its place in the World Cup final by defeating France 2-0 in a match held in Texas, USA. In the first half of that match, Yamal himself earned a penalty, which Mikel Oyarzabal converted into a goal, giving Spain the lead.

Yamal also helped Barcelona defend their Spanish domestic league La Liga title last season. This is not the first time that the homes of football players have been targeted in Spain.

Previously, burglaries have also occurred at the homes of famous players such as Karim Benzema, Rodrygo, and Dani Carvajal in Madrid. Spain will now compete against either Argentina or England in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled for next Sunday.
