Dr. Janaki Kumari Tuladhar Assumes Acting Chief Election Commissioner Role

Kathmandu. The responsibility of the acting Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission Nepal has been taken over by Commissioner Dr. Janaki Kumari Tuladhar. Following the retirement of the previous acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari on June 7 due to the 65-year age limit, Commissioner Dr. Tuladhar, who is next in seniority, has been given this responsibility.

The election for the House of Representatives was completed on March 7 under the leadership of Commissioner Bhandari. The commission, which is to have five members, currently has Commissioner Dr. Tuladhar and Commissioner Sagun Shamsher Jabra remaining.

The term of the then Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya ended on April 18, 2025, and the term of the then Election Commissioner Ishwari Prasad Poudel ended on February 16, 2023.

The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has started the hearing process, including calling for complaints against the three individuals recommended for the positions of Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioner. The Constitutional Council has recommended Man Bahadur Karki (Morang) for Chief Election Commissioner and Dr. Rajiv Subba (Kathmandu) and Guru Prasad Wagle (Okhaldhunga) for Election Commissioners.
