MP Ganesh Karki Questions Government Policy, Citizen Life Protection Amidst Rising Suicides

Kathmandu. National Independent Party MP Ganesh Karki has raised questions about government policy and the protection of citizens' lives. 

Connecting the incident of self-immolation by Pathao driver Ganesh Nepali with the increasing rate of suicide in the country, he has urged his own party supporters and the government to introspect through social media.

MP Karki clarified that a person is punished for violating a rule, which curtails the rights of others. However, he believes that if following the rules becomes difficult for people, or if dying is easier than following the rules, then either the rules should be reviewed, or more effort should be made to explain the rules to people. 

He declared that anyone who asks whether to choose a person or a rule is foolish, and he will always choose a person. Urging the supporters of his own party, the National Independent Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party), and the government, he warned them not to make arguments heavier than human life to save the government and the party. He believes that no political party or government can be greater than the life of a citizen.

Pointing out the sad reality of Nepal, he urged everyone to understand that ours is a country where 18 people commit suicide daily if given time. He stated that the cause of suicide is either mental problems or impulse, and both of these can be reduced.

He called on everyone to openly discuss such serious social and mental problems and share correct information in society.
