Cristiano Ronaldo's Sister Claims 2026 World Cup Will Be His Last

Madrid. Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo is preparing to retire from the national team after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, his sister has claimed.

Ronaldo's sister Katia Aveiro, speaking to Spanish media outlet AS, said that according to the information she has received, this World Cup will be Ronaldo's last tournament for the Portuguese national team.

'The most important thing now is to enjoy the moments we have spent together over these 20+ years. I feel extremely proud. I was at the Qatar World Cup, and I am here now. This is a matter of great pride for us. I believe that in the end, we will smile. Ronaldo himself is confident, rather we are more stressed than him,' Katia said.

When asked about the possibility of Ronaldo playing in the 2028 European Championship, she said, 'According to the information I have, the time for farewell is near. Not today, but I think this will be his final farewell. I mean in the context of the national team. I know this from a reliable source. This World Cup is his last dance.'

Responding to the criticism Ronaldo is facing in the World Cup, Katia said that people who understand football should respect Ronaldo's contribution.

'There is no reason for people who understand and are intelligent about football not to like Cristiano. In fact, they will be deprived of his game. He has dominated world football for over two decades. Look at where we are today and where our Aveiro family came from. Remember how much my mother suffered. Do you think such criticism affects our happiness? Never,' she said.

However, Ronaldo has not yet made any official announcement about retiring from the national team after the World Cup. Many have viewed Katia's statement as a personal claim so far.
