Our diet, digestive problems, and some other diseases can also be responsible for foul-smelling gas. Therefore, it is important to know whether foul-smelling gas is a sign of liver disease.

Frequent foul-smelling gas is not a direct sign of liver disease. However, if the liver is not functioning properly, it can cause gas formation in the stomach and abdominal pain. Foul-smelling gas also occurs due to digestive problems such as bacterial imbalance in the intestines or 'Irritable Bowel Syndrome' (IBS).

• When can liver disease occur?

If your skin is turning yellow, you feel continuous pain in the right side of your abdomen, and along with that, you also pass foul-smelling gas, then it should not be taken lightly. Because these symptoms can be signs of liver disease. Besides this, paying attention to whether the urine is dark-colored can also help estimate if there is a liver-related problem.

How to identify the problem?

If the problem of foul-smelling gas persists for a long time or appears along with other symptoms mentioned above, a health check-up should be done. You can get your liver tested, undergo an ultrasound, blood tests, or other tests related to the abdomen as per the doctor's advice.

General measures to reduce gas and odor:

• To reduce gas, always eat light and easily digestible food.
• Make a habit of chewing food thoroughly before swallowing.
• Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
• Walk for at least 20 minutes after eating your main meal every day.
• Include fiber-rich foods in your diet that prevent constipation.
• If the problem does not subside, change your diet as per the doctor's advice.
