Tribhuvan University to Remove Political Student Organizations' Structures

Kathmandu. Tribhuvan University (TU) has initiated the process of removing the physical and organizational structures of party-affiliated student organizations from all its departments. The Student Welfare and Sports Directorate under the Office of the TU Vice-Chancellor has issued a letter to all departmental heads directing them in this regard. 

TU has taken this step based on the directive letters from the University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. The letter signed by Deputy Instructor Sandesh Kumar Regmi of the Directorate states that this decision has been made to end political party interference in the education sector, to properly address the real problems and voices of students, and to improve the declining quality of education. 

As per the directive, the structures of party-affiliated student organizations within the university and school premises must be completely removed within the next 60 days. Furthermore, within 90 days of the removal of party structures, a new mechanism called 'Student Council' or 'Voice of Student' will be developed to ensure the common and independent representation of students. 

The Directorate has also requested all departments to complete this task within the stipulated time frame and provide the information as soon as possible. A copy of this decision has also been sent to the offices of the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Registrar for their information.
