Mechi Highway Section Blocked by Landslide in Ilam

Ilam. The Mechi Highway section in Ilam's Golakharka-Rajduwali has been obstructed due to a landslide caused by rain. The road has been blocked after mud and debris fell onto the road from the Mai River in Ilam Municipality-9.< /p>

The road was blocked after mud and debris fell from above due to rain last night, informed Chief District Officer Laxman Dhakal. He said that this road, which is always risky, has had problems of mud and debris falling and traffic being closed before.< /p>

CDO Dhakal said that efforts are being made to clear the debris so that small vehicles can travel one way. He mentioned that it will take some time to operate large vehicles as mud is continuously falling on the road.< /p>

"The road is completely blocked due to mud and debris falling since last night. We have been trying to clear the debris since this morning to allow small vehicles to operate one way, it may take some time," said CDO Dhakal.< /p>

Similarly, the police have stated that the Mechi Highway section in Rong Rural Municipality-4, on the Ilam-Jhapa border, has been blocked by a landslide and two trees falling. The Chief of the District Police Office, Superintendent of Police Kuldip Chand, said that efforts are underway to clear the road in that section as well.< /p>

Citizens of Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, and Jhapa have been directly affected by the obstruction of this road section. With the road blocked, vehicles going from Ilam, Panchthar, and Taplejung to Jhapa and from Jhapa to Ilam, Panchthar, and Taplejung have been stopped midway, leaving passengers stranded.< /p>
