Major Highways Affected by Rain, Landslides Across Nepal

Kathmandu. Major highways in various parts of the country have been affected due to floods and landslides caused by incessant rainfall. According to the Nepal Police, traffic has been partially and fully obstructed on various road sections in Kosi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces as of 8 AM.

The Mid-Hill Highway in Bhojpur Municipality-5, Bokhim, Kosi Province, has been affected by floods. Traffic is currently operating on a one-way basis on this road section, and alternative routes have also been brought into use.

Similarly, the East-West Highway is operating on a one-way basis due to a landslide in the Budhi River at Sundarharaincha Municipality-5, Morang. The Kosi Highway has been completely obstructed due to a landslide in Syaule, Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-3, Sankhuwasabha, police said.

In Bagmati Province, traffic has been halted on the Khurkot-Nepalethok-Kathmandu road section in Kavrepalanchok due to the risk of potential floods. The road section from Kulungbani-Phakel-Humane-Pharping-Kathmandu under Indrasarovar Rural Municipality-2 and 4 in Makwanpur has been completely closed for maintenance work. This road section is expected to remain closed for about a month.

In Gandaki Province, although the Beni-Jomsom road section was affected by a landslide in the Mahabhir area of Annapurna Rural Municipality-6, Syangja, traffic has been operational since 8 AM, according to police.

Police have urged the public to travel only after checking road conditions and to exercise special caution in risk-prone areas during the monsoon season.
