Elderly Woman Dies After Snakebite in Jhapa

Baniyani. An elderly woman has died after being bitten by a venomous snake in Baisetol of Gauriganj Rural Municipality-4, Jhapa. The 88-year-old Panchamaya Sherma of Baisetol, Gauriganj-4, died on Sunday evening after being bitten by a venomous snake, informed District Police Office Information Officer Deputy Superintendent of Police Ranjan Awal.

While closing the door of the chicken coop, a snake that emerged from a pile of bricks nearby bit Panchamaya on the middle finger of her right hand. Sherma, who was seriously injured by the snakebite, was immediately taken to B&C Hospital in Birtamod for treatment.

Police said she died last night during treatment. The body is currently kept at B&C Hospital and further investigation into the incident is underway.
