Teenager Dies After Falling Rock Incident on Karnali Corridor

Humla. A teenage girl has died after being hit by a falling rock on the Karnali Corridor in Thagna, Sarkegad Rural Municipality.

Pabitra Saud, 15, of Gairisaya, Sarkegad Rural Municipality-4, had gone to the jungle to graze cattle this morning. She died on the spot around 10:30 AM when a rock suddenly fell from the upper part of the corridor, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Shankar Pokharel of the District Police Office.

After the information about the incident reached the Sarkegad Police Post at 11:50 AM, a four-member team led by Police Havildar Gobardhan Pariyar was dispatched to the scene. The police said that another police team led by Police Inspector Jang Bahadur Singh from the District Police Office has been sent to the scene for further investigation and necessary legal proceedings.

There has been a risk of falling rocks in the steep areas around the Karnali Corridor every year. This incident has once again highlighted the need for effective measures for the management of risky cliffs above the road, regular monitoring, and the safety of passengers and local residents.

Locals have drawn the immediate attention of the concerned bodies to prevent such accidents from recurring.
