Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chief Whip Kushbu Oli Advises Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal on Border Issues During China Visit

Kathmandu. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chief Whip Kushbu Oli has advised Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal to present a clear stance on border issues during his visit to China.  

She strongly objected to Foreign Minister Khanal not raising the issue of the border during his visit to India and cautioned him to clearly raise this matter during the China visit.

Speaking in the House of Representatives meeting on Friday, Chief Whip Oli asserted that Foreign Minister Khanal, by only talking about border management and not border issues in Parliament, had failed to understand its seriousness. She mentioned that it is necessary for the MPs to study further about border management and border disputes and form their opinions.

Speaking in Parliament, Chief Whip Oli said, ‘The issue of the border was not raised at all in the official talks in Delhi. Not a single word about the border dispute was raised in any press release issued by the Nepali side. After the visit ended, he raised some issues in a closed room with journalists in Delhi and issued a press note after returning to Kathmandu. Even in that, there is not a word about the border dispute.’

She added, ‘Only after journalists asked did he feel compelled to say something. He did not raise the issue of border dispute in Parliament either. He has only raised the regular work of border management, such as the management of Jange pillars and the meeting about it.’  

She clarified that border management and the issue of the Nepali map are different. She drew the attention of the Parliament to the fact that while press releases written by Nepal in the past 7 years have always contained border disputes, this is the first time it has been removed from the government's press note.

She said, ‘Foreign Minister is going to China again. Just as he strongly stated in a closed room to the media that Lipulek, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani are ours, I also wish him well that these words are uttered in the press note there and at the diplomatic table.’  

Chief Whip Oli emphasized that the government itself should clarify the issues of Lipulek, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani and move forward with strong diplomatic dialogue with neighboring countries.
