Weather Forecast: Mixed Conditions Across Nepal with Heatwaves in Tarai and Rain in Hills

Kathmandu. According to the weather forecast released by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology for Sunday, the weather across the country will be mixed today. Cities in the western Terai will experience extreme heat, while there is a possibility of rain with thunderstorms in the hilly and eastern regions.

A 'heatwave' is forecast to occur in Nepalgunj this afternoon, with the maximum temperature reaching 38 to 40 degrees Celsius. Similarly, the temperature in Dhangadhi and Bhairahawa will also reach 38 to 40 degrees, making it a very 'hot day'.

Dipayal, Simara, and Janakpur will also have hot days, with temperatures around 34 to 37 degrees Celsius. In Birendranagar, despite the temperature being between 35 and 37 degrees, there will be partial cloud cover.

The weather will be relatively cooler in the hilly and eastern regions. Pokhara, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Jiri, and Taplejung are forecast to experience moderate rain with thunderstorms in the afternoon. There is a 40 percent chance of rain in Pokhara and Taplejung.

In the federal capital Kathmandu, as well as Dadeldhura, Jumla, Ghorahi, Biratnagar, Jomsom, and Dharan, there is a 20 to 30 percent chance of light rain with thunderstorms in the afternoon. The lowest maximum temperature in the afternoon will be in Jumla and Jomsom, between 22 to 24 degrees Celsius.

Looking at the weather tonight, rain is expected to continue in most hilly and eastern areas. In Simara and Janakpur, which were described as hot days, there is a possibility of light rain with thunderstorms at night, which will provide some relief from the heat.

Kathmandu, Pokhara, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Jiri, and Taplejung have a 30 to 40 percent chance of moderate rain at night as well. Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi will have mostly clear skies at night, while Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Birendranagar, Jumla, Ghorahi, and Bhairahawa will have partial cloud cover. The lowest temperature at night is forecast to be in Jomsom, between 9 to 11 degrees Celsius.
