Pokhara Launches Mega Tree Plantation Drive

Pokhara. The mega tree plantation campaign is underway in the Pokhara Metropolitan City area. Mayor Dhanraj Acharya said that the tree plantation campaign has been started to develop Pokhara as a clean city: a green city.

Under the campaign, more than 6,000 saplings were planted in various areas of Pokhara Metropolitan City on Friday, the occasion of World Environment Day. Saplings of various species of flowers and fruits were planted in the premises of the Pokhara Valley City Development Committee office in the presence of Mayor Dhanraj Acharya. 

During the mega tree plantation campaign, Mayor Acharya has called on the city dwellers to contribute to building a Green Pokhara Clean Pokhara by planting saplings from their respective places. He urged to promote environmental cleanliness by regularly tending and conserving the saplings planted in front of their homes and shops. 

Under the campaign, after extensive study, according to the suggestions of the Institute of Forest Science and experts related to forests and environment, 226,000 saplings of 38 species will be planted on 700 km of roads and highways, about 67 km of river and stream banks, and 125 hectares of open space in 29 public places in the city area, he said.

Chief Administrative Officer of Pokhara Metropolitan City Mukti Ram Aryal said that every city dweller must take the responsibility of conserving the saplings in front of them to make the Green Pokhara Clean Pokhara campaign meaningful. Stating that the Metropolitan City is with you to make your surrounding environment clean and green, he urged to support the Metropolitan City's campaign. 

According to the suggestions of the experts, the saplings that can be planted in the identified areas within the metropolitan area include Bar, Peepal, Shami, Paiyun, Koiralo, Tanki, Laligurans, Asare, Mango, Amla, Ashoka, Kalki flower, Raikhanyu, Gulmohar, Bamboo, Lalupate, Kagaj Pate, Palam, Dhupi, Bamboo, Khayer, Sisau, Pakhuri, Rajvriksha, Rato Pate, Cina exatavilis, Tikoma, Kapur, Litchi, Kimbu, Bel, Amba, Nimaro, Kadamba, Rudraksha, Bedula, Nareshwar, Jangli Kera, etc.
