Nepali Congress Active Membership Update: 375,000 Members Updated

Kathmandu. In the Nepali Congress, only 375,000 active members have updated their membership so far. The active membership management committee led by General Secretary Pradip Poudel has given time to the members who have renewed their active membership to 'digitally update' it.

As of the preparation of this news, 375,000 have updated their membership, informed Prakash Snehi Rasaili, party joint general secretary and member of the membership management committee. The committee estimates that the number will increase to 400,000 by evening, Rasaili informed.

In the 14th general convention, there were more than 870,000 active members of Congress. Now that number has decreased to 375,000. Joint General Secretary Rasaili said that in the previous general convention, there were about 200,000 members including government employees and teachers, and now that has decreased.

It was certain that the number would decrease after the government made arrangements that government employees and teachers would not be able to take membership in any party. Apart from that, a significant number of Congress active members have not updated their membership.

There has been a dispute in Congress since the special general convention held in the last week of Poush. The special general convention formed a new committee under the leadership of Gagan Thapa. The active membership management committee formed by that committee had made it mandatory for active members who renewed for the 15th general convention to also 'digitally update'. However, the group of former President Sher Bahadur Deuba is maintaining its stance of not updating.

Before holding the special general convention, 450,000 had renewed their active membership. Rasaili, who was also a member of the active membership management committee at that time, informed that 450,000 had renewed their active membership at that time, and now 375,000 are updating.
