Prisoner Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Murder Arrested After Escaping Custody

Kathmandu. The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office has arrested a defendant who had escaped from prison while serving a life sentence for a murder case. The arrested individual is 45-year-old Man Bahadur Bamjan, a permanent resident of Ward No. 3, Marin Rural Municipality, Sindhuli, currently residing in Sundar Basti, Ward No. 6, Suryavinayak Municipality, Bhaktapur District. A special police team deployed by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office took him into custody around 1:30 PM on Jestha 14th from Sundar Basti, Suryavinayak-6, Bhaktapur. According to Police Superintendent and Information Officer Rameshwar Karki, Bamjan has been sent to the Central Jail, Jagannathdewal, Sundhara, for necessary legal action and to serve the remainder of his sentence. Earlier, on Magh 22, 2077, Bamjan had brutally murdered his elder brother Chet Bahadur Bamjan by attacking his head and neck with an axe and khukuri at his home in Mathauli, Ward No. 3, Marin Rural Municipality, Sindhuli. The Sindhuli District Court had convicted Bamjan and sentenced him to life imprisonment on Ashoj 17, 2080. After the court's verdict, he was kept in the Central Jail, Sundhara, to serve his sentence. However, taking advantage of the jail movement and unrest, he managed to escape from prison. After absconding, he changed his appearance and was hiding in Bhaktapur when the crime investigation office team arrested him and sent him back to prison.
