Weather Forecast: Thunderstorms and Rain Expected Across Nepal

Kathmandu. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has released the weather forecast for the major cities of the country for Monday. 

According to the forecast, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms across the country today. The possibility of rain is higher in the hilly and Himalayan regions, while most of the cities in the Terai will experience high temperatures and extreme heat.

The forecast predicts bad weather in most cities of the country during the afternoon. The department has stated that there is a 40 percent chance of rain in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Birendranagar, Jumla, Okhaldhunga, Jomsom, Jiri, and Taplejung with thunderstorms. Today, Kathmandu's maximum temperature will be between 28 to 30 degrees Celsius, while Pokhara's temperature will reach 29 to 31 degrees Celsius. In the Himalayan and high hilly cities of Jumla and Jomsom, the maximum temperatures will be 20 to 22 and 19 to 21 degrees Celsius, respectively.

While there is a possibility of rain in the hills, temperatures will remain high in the Terai cities. Bhairahawa, Biratnagar, and Janakpur are among the hottest cities in the country today. The maximum temperature in these cities is estimated to reach 35 to 37 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in Simara and Dharan will also be between 34 to 36 degrees Celsius. There is a zero percent chance of rain in Simara and Janakpur in the afternoon, and the weather will only be partly cloudy. However, there is a 20 to 40 percent chance of light rain with thunderstorms in Dadeldhura, Nepalgunj, Ghorahi, Bhairahawa, Biratnagar, and Dharan.

Tonight, the weather in most of the Terai cities will improve. There is no chance of rain tonight in Dhangadhi, Birendranagar, Nepalgunj, Ghorahi, Bhairahawa, Simara, Kathmandu, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Dharan, and Janakpur. The weather in Simara and Janakpur will be mainly clear at night, while other cities will have partial cloud cover. However, there is a 20 to 40 percent chance of light rain with thunderstorms tonight in the hilly and Himalayan cities of Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Jumla, Pokhara, Okhaldhunga, Jomsom, Jiri, and Taplejung.

Tonight, Jumla's temperature will drop to the lowest at 9 to 11 degrees Celsius, while Jomsom will be between 10 to 12 and Jiri between 11 to 13 degrees Celsius. Analyzing the weather system, experts have urged to take necessary precautions as there is a possibility of rain with thunderstorms in many places across the country.
