Traffic Police Seize Motorcycle for Loud Noise and Reckless Driving

Kathmandu. On May 1, the Traffic Police Division in Kapana, Kathmandu, impounded a motorcycle. The rider of the motorcycle, Bagmati Province-02-062 Pa 1352, was riding it while standing. The locals criticized the loud noise coming from the motorcycle he was riding, causing noise pollution in the surrounding area. The motorcycle was ridden by Raj Kumar Tamang. He is a vlogger. SP Naresh Subedi of the Metropolitan Traffic Police Office told Ratopati that he was arrested after investigation through CCTV footage based on videos received on social media. Traffic police have fined Tamang according to the Transport Management Act. After being arrested, Tamang said, 'I made a mistake, the CCTV camera had captured it, I apologize to everyone for that incident.' According to the Metropolitan Traffic Police Office, such incidents happen to attract people's attention and gain fame. Unusual and dramatic acts done to attract attention and gain fame are called stunts. SP Subedi of the Metropolitan Traffic Police Office said that there have been 12 such stunt incidents in the last 3 months. He said, 'The tendency to imitate and perform stunts also increases the risk of accidents.' Traffic police had arrested the rider of the scooter, Bagmati Province-050 Pa 1394, for riding it while standing. After being arrested, he told the police, 'I broke the traffic rules, by riding while standing I put my own and others' lives at risk, I tell everyone not to do this in the future and I will not do it myself.' Traffic police have made public the video of his commitment on the Nepal Police Facebook page. SP Subedi said that those who violate traffic rules in this way are fined and released after being counseled. According to Section 164 of the Transport Management Act, 2049 BS, reckless driving of vehicles is prohibited. If found driving in such a manner, there is a legal provision of a fine of 500 to 1500 rupees. SP Subedi says, 'The fine amount is small, we have also counseled them along with the fine.' Videos can be seen on social media of people drinking beer while sticking out of car doors and traveling precariously hanging from the back of an auto. The incident of making a TikTok by running in front of a moving microbus has also been shared many times by social media users and watched by millions. Such acts are against traffic rules. The lives of those involved in such incidents are also at risk. Police take such drivers into custody and take action. However, such stunt incidents have not stopped. Such incidents are repeated from time to time.
