Nepal Sees Positive Signs in Industry and Investment Sector

Kathmandu. Positive signs have been observed in Nepal's industry and investment sector. According to the Economic Survey 2082/83 made public on Wednesday by Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, investment worth approximately 5 kharba rupees has been approved through the Department of Industry and Investment Board by the end of Falgun of the current fiscal year. According to Finance Minister Wagle, a total of 4 kharba 92 arba rupees has been approved by the end of Falgun of the current fiscal year, with 3 kharba 89 arba 74 crore from the Department of Industry and 1 kharba 2 arba 26 crore from the Investment Board. By Falgun 2082, the total approved investment in the industrial sector has reached 5 kharba 44 arba 6 crore.

Over 11 Thousand Industries Registered, Employment for 7.5 Lakh People

Along with investment approval, the registration of new industries has also increased. In the first 8 months of the current fiscal year (until Falgun), 921 new industries have been registered with the Department of Industry. With this, the total number of industries registered by Falgun 2082 has reached 11 thousand 140. The government estimates that approximately 7 lakh 85 thousand citizens will get direct employment when the registered industries come into full operation.

Foreign Investment Concentrated in Service Sector, Low Attraction in Minerals

Progress has also been seen in foreign direct investment in Nepal. By Falgun 2082, foreign investment worth 6 kharba 25 arba 58 crore has been approved for a total of 7 thousand 951 projects at the Department of Industry. According to the survey, the service industry is the first choice for foreign investors. Out of the total approved foreign investment, the service sector accounts for the largest share of 28.3 percent, while mineral industries have the least investment approved at only 1.3 percent.

Company Registrations Nearing 4 Lakh, Private Limited Dominates

The rate of company registration in Nepal is also significant. By Falgun 2082, the total number of registered companies has reached 3 lakh 69 thousand 646. Looking at the nature of registered companies, private companies show a monopoly. Out of the total companies, 97.5 percent are private, while other types of companies account for only 2.5 percent.
