Tourism Department Director General Suggests Unique ID for Foreign Tourists

Kathmandu. Director General of the Department of Tourism Ramkrishna Lamichhane has stated that a 'unique ID' should be provided at the tourist entry point to make the monitoring and management of foreign tourists more effective. He said this while speaking at an interaction program on 'Foreign Citizen Management Information System' organized at the department on Tuesday. He stated that after the implementation of this system, it will be easy to track the activities of foreign tourists wherever they go within Nepal through the immigration system. Director General Lamichhane said that the effort of the immigration department to systematically and securely store the data and information of foreign tourists is commendable. He emphasized that the privacy of tourists should be prioritized while developing the information management system. He stated that the system should be developed in a way that the information collection process is easy, fast, and operates without additional hassle. Speaking at the program, he said, 'The effort of the immigration department to effectively manage the data and information of tourists coming from abroad is very commendable. This has been possible with the mutual cooperation of all of us. The immigration department is leading this. We need to develop the information management system consciously. Initially, we need to take care of the privacy of tourists. For that, all our systems need to be effective.' He added, 'Another thing is that we should not have to make extra efforts for tourist information collection. We need to ensure that data can be collected easily. If we can do this, it will help enhance the knowledge and skills of all of us. When tourists arrive, there are immigration points. A unique ID can be given to foreign tourists there. Then, wherever they go and whatever they do, their profile will appear in immigration, and it will be easy for us to track them.' He also stated that in addition to publicity for tourism promotion, special emphasis should be placed on the development of tourist infrastructure.
