Government Issues 'Work Division Regulations, 2083' Defining Prime Minister's Office Scope

Kathmandu. The government has issued the 'Work Division Regulations, 2083' and determined the scope of work for the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers' Office. The Council of Ministers has formulated this new regulation by exercising the power granted by Article 82, Sub-section (1) of the Constitution of Nepal.

According to the new regulation, the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers' Office has been made extremely powerful and multidimensional. This office's responsibilities encompass 48 areas of work, from the implementation of Council of Ministers' decisions to Artificial Intelligence and cyber security.

These are the 48 areas of work for the Prime Minister's Office
1. Work related to the Council of Ministers.
2. Formulation and implementation of the Government of Nepal's work division and work performance regulations.
3. General direction, control, and operation of Nepal's governance system.
4. Implementation and monitoring of Council of Ministers' decisions.
5. Oversight, inspection, control, and coordination of ministries' work.
6. Formulation, approval, implementation, and evaluation of short-term and long-term policies, periodic plans, and strategies.
7. Documents to be authenticated as per prevailing laws.
8. Work related to federal bills, ordinances, rules, orders, directives, and procedures.
9. Up-to-date information on the country's political, economic, social, cultural situation, national security, diplomatic activities, etc.
10. Policies and plans related to governance management, promotion of good governance, and governance reform.
11. Monitoring of bilateral and multilateral treaties, agreements, and understandings.
12. Work related to the federal governance system and inter-province affairs.
13. Prime Minister's contact and communication.
14. Implementation of the Prime Minister's directives.
15. Protection, promotion, coordination, and reporting of human rights.
16. Implementation of policies, strategies, and laws related to corruption control and integrity.
17. Convening and ending of the Federal Parliament session.
18. Work related to the Chief of Province.
19. Foreign affairs and security matters.
20. Matters related to the Office of the President and Vice-President.

With the enforcement of this regulation, the previous 'Government of Nepal (Work Division) Regulations, 2074' has been repealed. The new work division appears to establish the Prime Minister's Office as a center for monitoring and directing every mechanism of the state.
