Indigenous Nationalities Federation Urges Communist Party to Ensure Rights and Participation

Kathmandu. The Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities has urged the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) to help ensure the rights of indigenous nationalities and their equal participation in every level of the state. 

On Tuesday, a delegation from the Federation visited the CPN headquarters at Parisdanda and submitted a memorandum demanding that the issues of indigenous people be addressed. 

Bimal Saru Magar, the General Secretary of the Federation, stated that despite significant political changes, constitution-making, and the practice of federalism in the country, the core issues and rights of indigenous nationalities have not yet been effectively addressed. He expressed concern that the equal participation and inclusive state-building goals guaranteed by the constitution have not been fully implemented in practice. 

Highlighting the role of the Communist Party in Nepal's democratic movement, he mentioned that political parties have a moral and historical responsibility to ensure the rights of indigenous people. The Federation has urged the party to prioritize the rights and proportional representation of indigenous nationalities, their education, employment, preservation of language and culture, and effective participation in state decision-making processes in its policies and programs. 

General Secretary Magar said, “Despite the political changes and constitution-making in the country, it is concerning that the core issues of indigenous nationalities have not been adequately addressed. As the Communist Party of Nepal has played a historic role in building an inclusive state, we believe you have a special political responsibility to ensure our rights.” 

Discussing the significant role of indigenous nationalities in preserving Nepal's tourism, skills, arts, and culture, the Federation urged all political parties to take their rights seriously and show concrete commitment. The Federation demands that political parties come up with a clear action plan for building an inclusive and just Nepal. The Federation has announced that it will continue its campaign to draw the attention of all political parties to ensure its demands and rights.
