Russia and Saudi Arabia Discuss Hormuz Strait Situation

Kathmandu. The Foreign Ministers of Russia and Saudi Arabia have discussed the latest situation around the Strait of Hormuz. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud held a telephone conversation on Friday.

During the talks, both sides emphasized the need to pay special attention to preventing the escalation of regional tensions. They also agreed on the necessity of advancing continuous diplomatic dialogue and mutual contact for a long-term and permanent solution.

Both ministers mentioned that ensuring free and safe passage in the Strait of Hormuz, as it was before, is extremely important. They pointed out the need to restore the security and smooth operation of the waterway to the level it was before the end of February.

In addition, ideas were exchanged on the appropriateness of reactivating diplomatic efforts to normalize relations between Iran and Arab countries in the long term. Both sides agreed that dialogue is the most effective means to strengthen regional stability and mutual trust.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reiterated that Russia is ready to facilitate this process, taking into account the interests of all stakeholders if necessary.

The Strait of Hormuz is considered an extremely important strategic waterway for global energy supply and international trade. Due to the fact that any instability or tension in this region affects the global energy market, the international community has been showing special interest in its stability.
