Kunal Shah Appointed Head of WhatsApp by Meta

New Delhi. Meta has appointed Kunal Shah, founder of Indian fintech company Cred, as the head of the world's most popular messaging service, WhatsApp. With this appointment, Shah has become the first Indian to lead WhatsApp.

Shah, who grew up in Mumbai, made a name for himself in the Indian startup sector by founding Freecharge in 2010. He later founded Cred in 2018, which is now considered one of India's leading fintech companies.

Shah's appointment comes as WhatsApp expands its messaging service along with payments, business services, and artificial intelligence (AI) based products. Company chief Mark Zuckerberg praised Shah's 'creative thinking' and 'global vision'.
